archiemcphee:
Artist Krisztianna created a wonderful series of five different masks, called Muertitas. Four of the masks represent each of the four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter) and the fifth is the “Momma Muertita.”
Each sculpture is constructed around foam core supported by a wire frame. “Paper maché and clay form the neck and face. The elaborate synthetic flower headdress is the last element to be added. The distinctive look of the sculptures is inspired by the sugar skull art associated with Day of the Dead celebrations.”
“These mixed media wall pieces explore my artistic influences and the cycles of nature. Birth, death, and rebirth are all fascinating concepts to me, and the the art of the sugar skull is a perfect visual to help me express the joy of life and my respect of finality.”
